Medical SEO Case Study – Month 4

1 post per day on a secret medical website. Do this for an entire year and document the progress. We are in month 4 now, let's see how traffic and rankings look like.

Traffic and Ranking Stats

We still didn’t get the breakthrough I’d expect to see from our posting efforts, but the growth had been steady since starting the project.

We almost doubled our numbers each month, which gives me hopes for the future of this test project.

I even got to finish a very sexy Looker Studio reporting, that allows me to track progress easier. (If you’d like access to it, let me know).

Google’s March 2024 Core Update Aftermath

This is how our main competitors look after being hit by the Google’s March Algorithm update. Websites that have been wiped out from the SERPs. And no, most of them didn’t have junk content and used to get tens of thousands of organic visitors per month.

It’s horrible to see how people’s livelihoods are compromised, while Google is sporting crap results from Reddit, Quora and Medium. EEAT, yeah sure …

What I Did in April

Struggled to keep my posting schedule.

I followed my topics list on Whimsical and went deeper into certain topic clusters. To this date we have a few that got a lot of traction, but also many that are not yet moving in the right direction.

As a personal observation, most of the articles that are driving traffic are the ones posted in February and March, which shows that AGE has something to do with rankings.

On my ranking improvement checklist, I take into account the article’s age and will not begin to worry too much, if it doesn’t have at least 60 days.

I also did most of my posting and optimization through NeuronWriter and started to appreciate its qualities more. It automates some of my research and, together with Ahrefs, it allowed me to create really decent content.

Cannot be too excited about it though, since we all know what happened during the algorithm update. Since I don’t have WebMD’s domain rating and we’re not Reddit to be ranked with junk posts, nothing is certain anymore.

What Worked?

Consistent posting does work. Just as mentioned in my previous episodes, we get indexed in a matter of hours and my indexation reports are pristine.

I can already see some trends and this will allow me to execute even more focused posting (we’ll follow the topics that are clearly trending), instead of just posting something to call it a day.

As I have embarked into this journey alone, efficiency is key, so that I can first take care of our existing clients and not just “play” webmaster.

We earned 20 cents in Adsense, so I’ll not quit my day job yet 🙂

What Needs My Attention?

Social media is a traffic resource I need to leverage. Our dedicated LinkedIn account works wonderfully, we already have a couple hundred followers with minimum effort from my part.

And this is developed away from my own accounts, which makes growth a tad harder.

Except for the small press release launched a month ago, I have done NO link building whatsoever, so this month I’ll probably need to do some outreach.

That’s all for now, if you’d like more details, give me a shout in the comments 😉
